Sea Moss, also known as Irish Moss or scientifically as Chondrus crispus, is a type of red algae commonly found in the Atlantic Ocean, particularly along the coastlines of Ireland and Scotland, the Caribbean (notably Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Grenada), the North Atlantic coasts of Canada and the northeastern United States, and other favorable coastal regions worldwide. Historically harvested along rocky shores, sea moss is now also cultivated in controlled environments and aquaculture settings to meet growing demand.

This sea vegetable has gained significant attention for its potential health benefits, including its rich content of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. A study published in the “Journal of Applied Phycology” highlighted that Irish Sea Moss is a valuable source of iodine, which is essential for thyroid function, and contains bioactive compounds that may support immune health and reduce inflammation (McHugh, 2003).
